James M. Copeland

Jim Copeland has extensive experience working with legislative and executive branches, from years serving both inside and outside the government. Jim developed a clear insight into the inner workings of government as Director of Congressional Relations at the Federal Home Loan Bank Board; Administrative Assistant to Rep. Fortney Stark (D-CA); and as White House Deputy Assistant to President Carter. After his White House tenure, Jim served as Vice President of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, specializing in legislative and regulatory affairs. He subsequently became a government relations consultant to two law firms. His career also includes four years in the banking industry at Continental Illinois National Bank and Security National Bank.

Jim has been able to bring the full spectrum of his government experience and knowledge to organizations in many fields. Working in a bipartisan manner, he has helped secure passage of legislation reforming major telecommunications laws, welfare policy, and tax policy. He also has worked extensively with legislative and regulatory actions affecting commodity futures exchanges and financial institutions. In addition, Jim has taken a lead role in obtaining authorization and appropriations for major transit projects and housing programs. His expertise in transportation and financial services policy, as well as his intricate knowledge of state and local government representation, has led the firm to the successful implementation of a broad range of strategies tailored to each client’s needs.

Jim is a past member of the Habitat for Humanity International Board of Directors and a principal with the Council for Excellence in Government. He holds a Bachelors degree from Trinity College in Deerfield, Illinois and an MBA from Loyola University in Chicago.
